Reproduction Requirements
PE magazine is printed in 4-color process, CMYK to SWOP specifications, and all pre-press is done electronically. Therefore, all advertising should be supplied in digital formats, and colors need to be converted to CMYK. Film negatives or positives, and camera- ready art are not acceptable.
Technical Specifications
Materials for ads, in order of preference: PDF* files and EPS files with fonts converted to outlines are preferred. Collected files from Adobe InDesign CS or later for Windows; QuarkXPress version 6 or later for Windows are also accepted.
*PDF/X-1a files are preferred. Do not generate PDF files through a page-layout application. PDF files must be generated from a PostScript file and then produced through Adobe Acrobat Distiller using the specific Distiller Job Options settings that we have specified. Acrobat Distiller settings for versions 4.x, 5.x, and 6.x are available for either Mac or Windows.
Collected files created with the MAC platform are not accepted due to the incompatibility of MAC and PC fonts. NSPE Publications Department is PC based.
For Marketplace ads, PDF files or EPS files with fonts converted to outlines are preferred. Please send your word-processor text separately from any image/graphic files. We will not accept any graphics that have been imported or dragged into a word-processing program. All images must be submitted as an EPS or TIFF in 4-color 300 DPI. Files created with Microsoft Publisher, PageMaker, FrameMaker, Corel Ventura, or any other similar programs are not accepted.
All collected files must be supplied on a CD-ROM disk along with fonts, embedded or linked photos/illustrations, and an appropriate printed color proof. Zipped or StuffIt files under 20MB that are in PDF format may be e-mailed to pemagazine@nspe.org. A proof is required for all display ads. Please fax or mail an appropriate proof.
