How do I join NSPE?

Ways to join NSPE.

  • Online: Join NSPE here If you are a former member of NSPE wishing to rejoin the Society, please do not use the online application. Instead, call 1-888-285-NSPE (6773) to rejoin.

  • By Phone: Call NSPE Member Services at 888-285-6773 and a Member Services Representative will be happy to assist with enrollment.

Do I qualify for membership in NSPE?

NSPE Bylaws state that all applicants must meet the qualifications set forth in one of the membership categories below in order to qualify for membership in NSPE.


A "licensed member" shall be defined as a person holding a valid license or certificate of registration as a professional engineer, issued under the laws of any state, territory, possession, or district of the United States, or the equivalent as defined under the laws of any other country, or a retired engineer who obtained and retained a valid license or certificate while in active practice in the profession until retirement.


A "member" shall be defined as a person holding a valid Engineer-In-Training or Engineering Intern certification, issued under the laws of any state, territory, possession or district of the United States, or the equivalent under the laws of any other country. A member shall automatically advance to the "licensed member" grade as soon as eligible by licensure.


A "student member" shall be defined as a person who is enrolled full-time in an ABET-accredited engineering program or an engineering or pre-engineering program that has a transfer agreement with one or more ABET accredited engineering programs. A student enrolled full-time in a graduate level engineering program may choose any grade for which eligible, including Student Member.


A person who has graduated with a bachelor's degree or higher from an ABET-accredited engineering curriculum or from an engineering or pre-engineering program that leads to engineering licensure shall be granted provisional status as a member for up to two years to achieve the full requirements for the member grade. "Graduate members" shall not have voting privileges and shall not be allowed to hold office in NSPE. Graduate members shall become full members immediately upon successfully meeting the requirements for member status.

What if my license is not in the U.S.?

If an applicant has achieved the equivalent of U.S. licensure in another country, NSPE will approve the applicant for membership.

How much does it cost to join?

Membership in NSPE is $299. This covers membership in the National Society, integrated state society, and local chapter for one full year. FL, LA, MS, and MT state societies voted to not integrate and state membership in these states is not included in the $299 pricing.

Did NSPE receive my payment?

Members may check the status of their membership by logging in online. Please visit www.nspe.org to log in. Members may also call NSPE Member Services at 888-285-6773 or e-mail us at memserv@nspe.org to check payment status.

Can I renew my membership?

Yes, you'll see a "Renew Now" button on your profile page when it's time to renew your membership.

When making a payment, please include your member number on the invoice, if possible.

What is my member ID number?

Members may find their member ID number online by logging in to the NSPE website. Once you are logged in, click on the "My Account" link. Your member ID is displayed on your profile page. For additional help, contact Member Services at 1-888-285-6773.

When does my membership expire?

You'll see a "Renew Now" button on your profile page when it's time to renew your membership. Once you are logged in to the NSPE website, click on "My Account" on the left navigation. For additional help, contact Member Services at 1-888-285-6773.

How do I update my profile/contact information?

You may update your contact information online at www.nspe.org. Once you are logged in to the NSPE website, click on "My Account" on the left navigation and then click on the "Manage My Account" link to visit your profile page. For additional help, contact Member Services at 1-888-285-6773.

Does NSPE offer membership discounts for recent gradutates?

NSPE offers discounted membership dues to recent college graduates of ABET-accredited schools and/or programs. Visit the Graduated Dues Program page for more details.
