William R. Kimel, P.E., Engineering Scholarship

The awarding of all NSPE Education Foundation scholarships is dependent on NSPE Education Foundation funds being available in the annual cycle in which the NSPE Education Foundation scholarship is awarded. If you have specific questions, please email students@nspe.org.

This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student who is a resident of either Kansas or Missouri, enrolled as a junior in an ABET-accredited engineering program in a college or university in either Kansas or Missouri. The award is for $2,500.

a. Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be students who:

  • Are a permanent resident of Kansas or Missouri;
  • Are currently enrolled in good standing in a four-year ABET-accredited engineering program at a college or university in either Kansas or Missouri;
  • Will be entering or continuing the junior year in the fall; and
  • Are U.S. citizens.

b. Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based on:

  • Grade point average;
  • Internship/co-op experience and involvement in other activities;
  • Honors/scholarships/awards beginning in high school senior year;
  • Two faculty recommendations; and
  • A 500-word (maximum) essay on “My Engineering Career Goals & Aspirations to Achieve Them”.

c. Required Application Materials

Applications must include the following:

  • A completed and signed application;
  • A resume or summary of internship/co-op experience(s) and involvement in other activities (recommendations from supervisors may also be submitted for additional consideration);
  • Recommendations from two faculty members who have taught the applicant;
  • A 500-word (maximum) essay on “My Engineering Career Goals & Aspirations to Achieve Them”; and
  • Transcript from the current academic program.

d. Other

  • Application deadline is April 1, 2024;
  • All applicants will be notified of the final selection by July 31, 2024;
  • The scholarship award will be disbursed to the recipient’s school in one installment at the beginning of the Fall semester; and
  • An NSPE Education Foundation William R. Kimel, P.E., Engineering Scholarship winner will forfeit receipt of the scholarship award if the recipient does not complete the year as agreed.
