The National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) is proud to announce the release of its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Glossary of Terms, a landmark resource aimed at fostering a culture of inclusion and unity within the engineering profession.

Engineering, at its core, thrives on innovation, collaboration, and a diverse range of perspectives. Recognizing the pivotal role that precise language plays in professional discourse, NSPE's DEI Glossary of Terms establishes a common understanding of key concepts essential for building strong engineering teams and promoting clear communication and collaboration across the entire engineering community.

"The DEI Glossary of Terms is an essential resource that underscores NSPE’s dedication to fostering a diverse and inclusive engineering community,” said Richard Easley, CAPP, chair of the NSPE Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Committee. “By establishing a shared language for discussing DEI issues, we enhance our ability to collaborate and innovate.”

The release of this glossary underscores NSPE's commitment to advancing the engineering profession by attracting and retaining a wider pool of talent. By fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, NSPE not only strengthens its position as a leader in shaping the future of engineering but also ensures that the profession reflects the diverse world it serves.

"Attracting and retaining top engineering talent is vital for the continued growth and success of our profession," added Easley. "By prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion, NSPE is not only investing in the success of its members but also in the betterment of society as a whole."

Importantly, NSPE's DEI Glossary of Terms serves as a resource for respectful communication across the organization, acknowledging and celebrating the diversity of backgrounds and perspectives within its membership. It reinforces NSPE's core value of 'Unity,' emphasizing teamwork, fellowship, and a shared commitment to advancing the engineering profession for the benefit of all.

"We recognize that we may come from different backgrounds and viewpoints, but we are united by our shared goal of building a strong and inclusive engineering profession," affirmed Easley. "This glossary is more than just a tool; it is a testament to our collective dedication to fostering an environment where every engineer feels valued, respected, and empowered to contribute."

NSPE invites all members of the engineering community to explore the DEI Glossary of Terms and join in its mission to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion as cornerstones of professional excellence and innovation.
